COVID-19: A Kwara group to sensitise over 90 villages

Over 90 rural communities in Edu and Patigi Local Government Areas of Kwara State will be sensitised on the spread and preventive measures against Coronavirus, COVID-19.

A group of young people under the aegis of Kwara North Youth Movement disclosed this plan today 31st March, 2020 in Lafiagi, the head quarters of Edu Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement signed by the Secretary of the group, Adam Suleiman, the villages will also include Hausa-speaking nomadic settlements in the said areas. He further disclosed that the sensitisation will be done on one-on-one basis adding that, volunteers have been directed not to attend to any group of people more than five at a time. This is to ensure that people are not gathered beyond the required number. Suleiman also stated that the volunteers for the sensitisation have been trained by medical trained experts on CONVID-19.

Speaking on the development, Uthman Qasim, a leader of the group, said the outreach has become necessary due to the fact that most people living in the marked communities may lack adequate information about the virus as a result of internet inaccessibility, language barriers, illiteracy, etc. He explained that indigenus languages will be used and medical consultants are also part of the team noting that, the programme will go on symteneously in the two local governments.

Qasim, however, added that the group needs all kinds of support to enable it carries this task as it will take days starting from April 1st, 2020, and even months to accomplish; depending on the availability of resources. The group has embarked on several sensitisation outings in the past.
